Abstract

Development of various forms of glacial erosion in Masahim Mountain affected by lithological, stratigraphy, climatic conditions and initial roughness features. Glacial morphology and landforms shows height relationship to lithology in this mountain. So the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of rock formation in evolution of the cirque as glacial landforms index in the Masahim Mountain.

For this purpose , the descriptive method , library study and field visits to identify shapes and analytic method are used . Topographic maps of 1 : 25,000, aerial photographs to a scale of 1 : 20,000 in 1344 , geological maps and information , and Arc GIS 10 software, are tools and data used in the research.

Analytical methods are hired to analysis lithological effect on glacial morphology. In this regard , using aerial photographs and field visits , 27 cirques were identified in this region. In order to evaluate the impact of lithology on glacial landforms in the area, longitudinal and transverse profiles of cirque related with lithology and sequence of layers were used during field observations and the analysis of aerial photos.

Finally, with regard to sequence stratigraphic layers in the cirque, model of regional cirque development in connection with the lithology was presented.

The results show that one of the important reasons for the formation of glaciers in this mountain is volcanic characteristics and debris covering the ice surface. Also, many circuses have at least on one side, overlooking the cirque walls is formation of resistant lava.
